Today I went with my buddy to the junkyard to pull a motor for his project car. Its a scratch build hotrod so he could use any engine he wanted. He wanted something “different”. I think my newfound Volvo love is infectious.

Agreed! I think we can coax about 200 HP out of it. It should make some neat noises, too!

N/A or T5? i spy 20v on the valvecover so defo the big 170hp NA engine at the minimum, which does sound spry with limited muffling

I suppose he will, though the water pump discharge and thermostat are on opposite sides of the block.

Yeah, he said he didn't want a V8. He really wanted a V12 but it was going to get astronimically expensive. So we started talking about inline 4s and 6s. Ive been into Volvos lately since I got the 850 so I presented the idea of the Volvo Inline 5, figured he wouldn't like it, but the more we discussed the more he was into it. They sound great when uncorked, almost like a baby Viper.

Well, its a T5, but we ditched the turbo. He's going to get it running N/A to start but the plan is to add a blower down the line.

Cosworth was using those engines for a long time, sold them crated.

It was a fun pull. The engine is on a stand in his garage now, waiting for him to finish up his grad class this semester. In the meantime we’re tracking down a RWD bellhousing and the adapter so we can convert it to RWD with a Tr emec T5 behind it.
